Defensive end Marcus Dixon took the time to answer some questions with FFLiveWire's Luke Nicholson about his career at Hampton, his teammates, and his versatility.
Luke Nicholson: Who is your biggest role model? Why?
Marcus Dixon: My biggest role model is definitely my dad (Ken Jones) because he continues to work the same way even if things are good! He never complains and always wants to give to others when it's even his last.
Luke Nicholson: What is your greatest football moment to date?
Marcus Dixon: My greatest football moment to date is probably lining up at TE and scoring my first ever TD on a 13 yard pass.
Luke Nicholson: Is there a situation in your past where you overcame adversity? How did you do it and how has it made you a better person?
Marcus Dixon: There was situation to come about my senior in High School where I was accused of rape and aggravated child molestation for having sex with a classmate (I was 18 and she was 15), but I was acquitted of rape and somehow still charged with aggravated child molestation. That event caused me to sit in prison for 15 months until the GA Supreme Court overturned the charge and cleared my record on May 3, 2004. The only way I made it through that adversity was prayer, support of family and friends, and faith! I truly learned the value of family and the value of life! I'm a better person because of the situation because I don't take anything for granted now and I know exactly where my strength comes from.
Luke Nicholson: What sports did you participate in during high school and how have they helped you to become a better player on the football field?
Marcus Dixon: In high school, I played basketball, baseball, and also did track. They all helped me on the football field because they kept me active but basketball helped the most because basketball requires a lot of footwork! I think playing basketball has allowed me to be more athletic on the field.
Luke Nicholson: What did you gain from your experience at the Hula Bowl?
Marcus Dixon: I think the biggest thing I gained in the Hula Bowl was more confidence in my abilities! I was a little nervous and doubting my abilities because I was listening to people talking about how I've only played against lesser competition. So I think in the game I could have done a lot better but I honestly believe I did pretty good against the run and ok versus the pass.
Luke Nicholson: You have played both defensive end and defensive tackle at Hampton. How has this versatility helped you as a player?
Marcus Dixon: I think me being versatile has helped me as player because I learned not to limit myself to one thing! You never know what a team needs and for me to play both DE and DT, I think, adds more value to me as a player!
Luke Nicholson: Do you prefer playing defensive end or defensive tackle? Are scouts planning to work you out at both positions?
Marcus Dixon: Honestly, I just want to play football! I love playing DL, so it wouldn't matter to me if I played DE or DT! I've heard things from the scouts about being a good 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT. I would be honored to play either position!
Luke Nicholson: Who is the best player you have faced during your career?
Marcus Dixon: In my career, the best player I faced was probably between Dan Parrish and Albert Stinson.
Luke Nicholson: How has playing with Vernon Bryant helped your development and do you see a future in the NFL for your teammate?
Marcus Dixon: Vernon Bryant is a BEAST! He is the 2-Gap Machine! He's strong, fast, and explosive and I definitely see a bright future in the NFL for him. Playing with Vernon raised not only my intensity but the whole teams' intensity! Vernon doesn't allow you give him anything but your best!
Luke Nicholson: If you could have any super power, what would you choose? Why?
Marcus Dixon: If I could choose a super power, it would be Sonic Speed so I can play safety and return kicks! HAHAHA
Luke Nicholson: What one thing do you have to work on the most to excel at the NFL level?
Marcus Dixon: I think the biggest thing I have to work to excel in the NFL is definitely my handwork!
Luke Nicholson: What current NFL player does your game most resemble?
Marcus Dixon: I'm not sure who my game resembles, but I love to watch Demarcus Ware and Michael Strahan play! They are always active!
Luke Nicholson: If someone decided to make amovie about your life, what actor would play you and what would the movie be titled?
Marcus Dixon: I will definitely choose Will Smith to play my part because he is very versatile in his acting roles. The movie could be called, "Life: Not to be Taken for Granted."
Luke Nicholson: What are you doing to prepare for the NFL Combine?
Marcus Dixon: I am currently training at Velocity Sports located in Connecticut and we are doing strength training and combine preparation!
Luke Nicholson: Which teams have expressed interest in you at this point?
Marcus Dixon: There has been a few teams I have talked to and they are the Ravens, Browns, Jets, Patriots, Packers, Bucs, Dolphins, Cowboys, Saints, Bills, Vikings, Eagles, Chargers, Steelers and I think I've talked to them all more than once!
Luke Nicholson: Are you a cat or a dog? Why?
Marcus Dixon: Dog because dogs always adapt to their surroundings!
Luke Nicholson: Why should a NFL team select you over other defensive ends in this draft?
Marcus Dixon: I should be selected over other DEs because I buy into the program and defensive scheme! I understand that taking on blocks and allowing LBs to scrape across the top is still considered making the play! I'm easily coached and very fast learner! I should be chosen because I play my responsibilities and always want to be around the ball! I am a team player and can be trusted to do what is right on and off the field!
Luke Nicholson: What are your plans for your career after football?
Marcus Dixon: My career plans for after football is to either teach and coach or do some strength coaching and training like I'm doing now!
Luke Nicholson: If you could sack any NFL quarterback, who would you choose? Why?
Marcus Dixon: I would sack Brett Favre because he's the greatest but I would definitely help him up afterwards because that's a man you have to give all your respect to!
Luke Nicholson: Finish the following sentence: Marcus Dixon is tougher than…
Marcus Dixon: Marcus Dixon is tougher than most because he knows his strength comes from GOD!
Luke Nicholson: Thank you for your time, Marcus. The staff at FFLiveWire wishes you the best of luck in all of your NFL endeavors.
Marcus Dixon: Thanks for interviewing me and I thank you and your staff for your wishes! Have a blessed one!
