FFLiveWire Exclusive Interview with Jo-Lonn Dunbar

Boston College linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar took the time to answer some questions with FFLiveWire's Luke Nicholson about his collegiate career, his preperation for the NFL Scouting Combine, and what he has learned from Dick Vermeil at the East-West Shrine game.

Luke Nicholson: Who is your biggest role model? Why?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: My mother is my biggest role model because growing up she was a single parent and she taught me how to be a good person and a good man. She also taught me how to be a good competitor because she was a basketball player, and I know that’s where I got that competitive nature.

Luke Nicholson: What is your greatest football moment to date?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Just having the opportunity to compete for the ACC Championship. Just to play in that game meant a lot to me.

Luke Nicholson: What sports did you participate in during high school and how have they helped you to become a better player on the football field?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Basketball - and I know that helped me in football because being able to communicate with others is a priority.

Luke Nicholson: What did you gain from your experience at the East-West Shrine Game and what did you learn from Dick Vermeil?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: I learned variations of different plays. It was helpful to run real NFL plays and to learn the terminology. Dick taught me about how to approach the NFL as a business.

Luke Nicholson: What led to the decision to move from running back to linebacker during the 2003 season?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: There were three running backs including me so there wasn’t much room in that position and the DB and LB Coach thought I could do it so it was kind of an easy decision.

Luke Nicholson: Who is the best player you have faced during your career?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: I would say Brady Quinn.

Luke Nicholson: What one thing do you have to work on the most to excel at the NFL level?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: I think I have to learn how to be a professional on-and-off the field -- in practice and in meetings. I want to learn the mannerisms of a professional athlete. Most guys are football players and good at it but now learning how to be a pro.

Luke Nicholson: What current NFL player does your game most resemble?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Lofa Tatupu

Luke Nicholson: If someone decided to make a movie about your life, what actor would play you and what would the movie be titled?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Morris Chestnut and I have no idea what the title would be.

Luke Nicholson: What are you doing to prepare for the NFL Combine?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Training with Coach Tom Shaw at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando.

Luke Nicholson: Are you a cat or a dog? Why?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Dog. I think I work well in packs and I’m fierce and aggressive.

Luke Nicholson: Why should a NFL team select you over other linebackers in this draft?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Because of the type of person I am… I’m more than a good football player. I will come to work everyday and put in the time and be one of the best players.

Luke Nicholson: What is something unique about you that most people don’t know?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: That I love Home & Garden TV, the Animal Channel, and National Geographic.

Luke Nicholson: If you could sack any NFL quarterback, who would you choose? Why?

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: Tom Brady, if you are going to sack a QB why not sack one of the best in the NFL.

Luke Nicholson: Finish the following sentence: Jo-Lonn Dunbar hits harder than…

Jo-Lonn Dunbar: a mack truck.

Luke Nicholson: Thank you for your time, Jo-Lonn. The staff at FFLiveWire wishes you the best of luck in all of your NFL endeavors.
