FFLiveWire Exclusive Interview with Cory Boyd

Running back Cory Boyd took the time to the time to asnswer some questions with FFLiveWire's Luke Nicholson about his career and teammates at South Carolina, preperation for the 2008 NFL Combine, and why he should be selected over other running back prospects in this draft class.

Luke Nicholson: Who is your biggest role model? Why?

Cory Boyd: My grandmother; she’s always been there. She’s seen a lot and been through a lot.

Luke Nicholson: What is your greatest football moment to date?

Cory Boyd: My first 100 yard games against Kentucky and Vandy.

Luke Nicholson: What sports did you participate in during high school and how have they helped you to become a better player on the football field?

Cory Boyd: Basketball, it helped me improve my vertical.

Luke Nicholson: What did you gain from your experience at the East-West Shrine Game and what did you learn from Dick Vermeil?

Cory Boyd: The importance of helping people less fortunate, when we visited with the children who were burn victims. [Coach Vermeil] taught me that even though you are a coach, you can still have fun and get the job done effectively and efficiently.

Luke Nicholson: Who is the best player you have faced during your career?

Cory Boyd: Glenn Dorsey (DT, LSU)

Luke Nicholson: How has playing with Blake Mitchell helped your development and do you see a future in the NFL for your teammate?

Cory Boyd: He helped me realize all QBs are not the only vocal leaders that can be in the huddle. Yes [I do see an NFL future for him], because he handles adversity and always remains calm.

Luke Nicholson: If you could have any super power, what would you choose? Why?

Cory Boyd: I would love to have lightening speed because I would never have to use a car or a plane and I would not have to spend any money.

Luke Nicholson: What one thing do you have to work on the most to excel at the NFL level?

Cory Boyd: I need to work on finishing my blocks.

Luke Nicholson: What current NFL player does your game most resemble?

Cory Boyd: Nobody, I want to bring my own style of running.

Luke Nicholson: What are you doing to prepare for the NFL Combine?

Cory Boyd: Everything possible: training my body, mind and soul.

Luke Nicholson: Are you a cat or a dog? Why?

Cory Boyd: A dog because I have an angry streak and I am a loyal person.

Luke Nicholson: Why should a NFL team select you over other running backs in this draft?

Cory Boyd: Because I rarely ever get tackled on first contact and I don’t go down without a fight. I play thru pain the same way I play without it. Plus I have the hands of a WR.

Luke Nicholson: What are your plans for your career after football?

Cory Boyd: I want to open up a youth recreational center.

Luke Nicholson: If you could run behind any NFL fullback, who would you choose? Why?

Cory Boyd: Lorenzo Neal because he demolishes anyone who steps in his path.

Luke Nicholson: Finish the following sentence: Cory Boyd is tougher than…

Cory Boyd: Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Mike Hart, Kevin Smith, Ray Rice, Matt Forte, Jonathan Stewart, Rafael Little, Tashard Choice, and any other RB they have in front of me.

Luke Nicholson: Thank you for your time, Cory. The staff at FFLiveWire wishes you the best of luck in all of your NFL endeavors.
