FFLiveWire Exclusive Interview with Andre Callender

Boston College running back Andre Callender took the time to answer some questions with FFLiveWire's Luke Nicholson about his role models, the compeition he faced in college, and his NFL aspirations.

Luke Nicholson: Who is your biggest role model? Why?

Andre Callender: My parents are my biggest role models because they have raised me to be the young man I am today with wonderful values (i.e. God, family, and dedication to my goals). They have also supported everything I have done my life; on and off the field.

Luke Nicholson: What is your greatest football moment to date?

Andre Callender: My greatest moment had to be catching the winning TD against V-Tech.

Luke Nicholson: What sports did you participate in during high school and how have they helped you to become a better player on the football field?

Andre Callender: I played football and basketball and ran track. Football in high school helped me to practice and practice is what makes perfect. It is also where I got my love for the game. I think basketball helped me with my hand and eye coordination, as well as my vertical jump. Track helped me with my techniques in running and my break away speed.

Luke Nicholson: Who is the best player you have faced during your career?

Andre Callender: It is hard to say because I have played against so many very good players in this conference who bring many different qualities to the table.

Luke Nicholson: How has playing with Matt Ryan helped your development and do you see a successful career in the NFL for your teammate?

Andre Callender: I have learned a lot from Matt Ryan who has showed me that if you work hard during the week, it will be easier when game time comes around. I think that Matt will have a successful career in the NFL because he is a hard worker and studies the game.

Luke Nicholson: Last season, as a running back, you set the Boston College single season record for receptions with 76. How do you think this will affect your value to NFL teams and would you consider switching to wide receiver at the professional level?

Andre Callender: I think this will help me because there are many running backs that cannot come out the backfield and catch the ball. I would change to receiver if it would help my team to be more successful.

Luke Nicholson: If you could have any super power, what would you choose? Why?

Andre Callender: I would have to say super speed so I can run where ever I need to go. Gas prices are getting high!

Luke Nicholson: What one thing do you have to work on the most to excel at the NFL level?

Andre Callender: I have to work on my blocking because the guys in the NFL are bigger and faster than in college football.

Luke Nicholson: What current NFL player does your game most resemble?

Andre Callender: My game most resembles that of Brian Westbrook because he can run and catch the ball well.

Luke Nicholson: If someone decided to make a movie about your life, what actor would play you and what would the movie be titled?

Andre Callender: Will smith would play myself because he has a sense of humor and seems to make the best of bad situations as I do. The title would be “My World.”

Luke Nicholson: What are you doing to prepare for your Pro Day?

Andre Callender: I am working out at Perfect Competition in Davie, Florida to get bigger, faster, and stronger.

Luke Nicholson: Which teams have expressed interest in you at this point?

Andre Callender: The Bears, Cardinals, Ravens, Eagles, Packers, Seahawks, and a few others.

Luke Nicholson: Is there a specific team you hope to play for?

Andre Callender: No, I wouldn’t care which team I play for.

Luke Nicholson: Are you a cat or a dog? Why?

Andre Callender: I think I’m a dog because once I put the pads on, I am aggressive and when I’m off the field I’m a person’s best friend.

Luke Nicholson: Outside of football, what are some of your hobbies?

Andre Callender: I love being around my family, fishing, and bowling. I have a very close knit family which loves to get together every chance we get especially during holidays and birthdays or any other event we can find a reason to get together for.

Luke Nicholson: Why should a NFL team select you over other running backs in this draft?

Andre Callender: An NFL team should select me over other RBs in this draft because they will get a guy that’s going to work hard and going to be the best he can be. I also am more versatile then most running back with a great ability and experience in catching, running, and doing kickoff returns.

Luke Nicholson: What are your plans for your career after football?

Andre Callender: I plan to hopefully start my own business in real estate and possibly a non-profit organization for children with special needs. Growing up I know how it felt to have a learning disability because I was dyslexic and I also had a cousin with special needs who recently passed away.

Luke Nicholson: If you could run behind any NFL fullback, who would you choose? Why?

Andre Callender: Lorenzo Neal is one of the best FB in the NFL. I like how he finishes his blocks once he makes contact.

Luke Nicholson: Finish the following sentence: Andre Callender's hands are softer than…

Andre Callender: any running back’s hands in the draft.

Luke Nicholson: Are you a better running back or kick returner? Do you believe you can excel in both roles at the NFL level?

Andre Callender: I think I am a better running back, however, I think I will be successful as both a running back and a kick returner. Also, with more practice and experience I will excel in not one, but both areas.

Luke Nicholson: Thank you for your time, Andre. The staff at FFLiveWire wishes you the best of luck in all of your NFL endeavors.
